PLC Maintenance Grant Scheme
Maintenance grants are available to adults and post-leaving cert students who are progressing to a QQI Level 5/6 Award or equivalent, and who have not previously studied for such an award. The amount of the grant depends on the distance a student travels from their place of residence to the College. Visit www.susi.ie for more infomation.
Back to Education Allowance
Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) is a scheme administered by the Department of Social Welfare. The BTEA allows students in receipt of certain Social Welfare benefits to retain those payments while attending a full-time course in the College. Students are liable for their students services fee and certain courses may also carry additional course related costs. To qualify for a Back to Education Allowance, you must be at least 21 years of age and in receipt of Social Welfare Benefit for a specified period. VTOS
If you are in receipt of social welfare for six months or more , and are 21 years of age, you qualify under the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) you will be eligible to attend one of the above courses and keep your full weekly Social Welfare Payment and any secondary benefits.
N.B. Students are only entitled to apply for one of the above grants. All Social Welfare recipients are advised to contact their local Social Welfare Office before commencement of a course. This is to get permission to do a course while continuing on their benefits and also to ensure that they get full entitlements.
