QQI courses represent a move away from the traditional end of year exams to a model based on continuous assessment. In this system students complete a variety of different tasks over the year and these all contribute to the end of year result. The different variety of assessments methods include:

 

Assignment – An exercise carried out in response to a brief with specific guidelines and usually of short duration.

 

Examination – A means of assessing a candidate’s ability to recall and apply skills,knowledge and understanding within a set time period and under clearly specified conditions.

 

Learner Record – A self-reported record by the candidate, in which he/she describes specific learning experiences, activities, responses, skills acquired.

 

Project – A substantial individual or group response to a brief with guidelines usually carried out over a period of time.

 

Skills Demonstration – Assessment of mastery of specified practical, organisational and/or interpersonal skills.
